WEST OF THE MOSCOW
"Arkhangelskoe" State Museum Estate.
Formerly Prince Nikolai Yusupov's estate (from 1810), it is a unique 18lh-19th century palace and park ensemble. The centre of composition of the
Arkhangdskoye Estate is the palace which was built here in the 1780.
The austere-looking two-storey palace, built in the 18tb century classicist style, is situated on the highest part of the estate. Its facade overlooking the park is adorned with a semi-circular colonaded bay.The fine proportions of the palace are emphasised by a belvedere rising above its roof by 10,5 metres.
The palace is a museum boast-ing a superb collection of painting by famous artists: Anthony Van Dyck, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, Ftancois Boucher, Hubert Robert and others, as well as classical statues ,fine furniture, mirrors chandeliers and articles of crystal and china.
The beauty of the park's alleys is enhanced by a number of elegant pavilions, summer-houses and fountains. The park descends to the Moskva River in three picturesque terraces adorned with marble statues.
