Victory Park. Central museum of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 years.
The grand opening of State museum of the Great Patriotic War, dedicated to the victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, was held in Moscow on May 9, 1995.
The Museum itself is the center of the memorial complex of the great victory and is situated on Poklonaya Gora. It consists of artistic war and historical
expositions of chronicles of the great war. A remarkable feature of the Museum is its audio-visual complexes with original newsreels of the wartime. Rare
photos, cartographical and archival materials make an integral part of the exposition. The Museum is equipped with modern automated search system, which
is very helpful in finding information about those who have fallen in time of war. An imposing exposition of military weapons, equipment and fortifications
is exhibited in the Victory Park . The central Museum and the Victory Park form a unique architectural ensemble. This group of buildings also include the
Victory memorial (142,5 m high) with bronze bas-reliefs and a statue of the victory Goddess Nika on its top, the Church of St. George Triumphant and memorial
mosque and synagogue.
- Six dioramas display the largest military actions of the Great Patriotic War.
- Glory Hall. Marble plates with 11.171 engraved names of the war participants awarded The Hero of the Soviet Union star.
- Memory and Mourning Hall where the so called “Books of Memory” with the names of 19,5 million soldiers killed during the war are stored.
- The Museum exhibition displays rifles and arms of all the countries that participated in the WW II, military orders, awards and ordinary soldiers’ lockets. A huge collection of sculptures. drawings, sketches of professional and non professional artists and military posters of the war years are also exhibited here.
