THE REGIONS OF MONGOLIA
SIGHTS OF INTEREST IN MONGOLIA
NAIRAMDAL ZUSLAN
Only 30km from Ulaanbaatar in the lovely Bayangol Valley, the Nairamdal Zuslan International Children's
Center is an interesting alternative to Terelj. It may be full of hundreds of screaming kids from all over the world in summer, but you can
easily avoid them and enjoy the serenity of the countryside.
Built in the 1970s, the center was the brainchild of Filatova, the powerful Russian wife of former Communist leader, Tsedenal. The idea was to enhance Mongolia's
prestige by hosting international summer youth exchange programs with both Eastern bloc and Western countries, (nairamdal means 'friendship' in Mongolian).
The center contains buildings constructed in styles from Central Asia, Latin America, Scandinavia and the Balkans. The hotel is palatial, the rooms are spotless and the staff are courteous.
You can enjoy some cultural displays, archery competitions and horse riding during the day, and in the winter, cross-country skiing is as good at as Terelj.
The center (which is open all year) is sometimes full in July and August, so it's worth ringing ahead.
