DELGER MORON RIVER IN MONGOLIA
Delger Moron river (Delgermurun river) located in the Khuvsgul aimag. About 50km south of Moron, on the border with the Arkhangai aimag, is area where the
Ider, Bugsei, Chuluut, Delger Moron rivers converge and emptying into the Selenge river.
The Delger river takes it's source from the Ulaan Taiga Mountain and flows for
445 kilometers to join the Ider river. The Delger is a karge river, with as many
species of fish as found in the Selenge river.
Delger Moron (mong. Dalgermoron), is one of the significant waterways
originating in the majestic expanses of Mongolia. Rushing north, it stretches
through the mountain ranges, creating picturesque landscapes and giving life to
the surrounding ecosystems. Energetic and sometimes harsh, the river meanders
through the wilderness, leaving an indelible mark in the memory of those who are
honored to observe its beauty.
It is located in the north of Mongolia, flowing in
the Khovsgol aimag. Translated from Mongolian, "Dalgermeren" means "Big wide
river". The length of the river reaches 445 kilometers, and its basin has an
area of about 26,600 square kilometers. The source of the river is located in
the valley of one of the mountain lakes, south of the highest mountain
Altan-Huhiy-Uul, reaching 3,351 meters. Merging with the Ider River, the
Dalger-Muren forms the Selenga River. The Russian-Mongolian border runs along
the river for a short distance.
The river freezes for 4-5 months a year. Often, due
to the melting of snow, the Dalgar-Moray River overflows its banks in June and
floods the district. For the most part, the river flows through the steppe.
Representatives of the local ichthyofauna are the salmon family: grayling, trout
and taimen. A ferry crosses the river in Bayanzurhe, and a concrete bridge has
been installed south of Moron for this purpose. The waters of the river are used
for the water supply of the city of Muren.
The
Delger Moron flows into the great Selenga River, located on the territory
of Russia, thereby forming an invaluable aquatic unity of two friendly peoples.
The tributary, full of history and legends, has served as a source of
inspiration for poets and artists for centuries. Locals have long revered the
river, perceiving it as an important symbol of their identity and culture. For
travelers, this place is attractive for its fabulous landscapes and rich
biodiversity.
The modern role of the
Delger Moron is not limited to its natural and cultural significance.
There are trends towards its use in agriculture and the development of various
infrastructure projects, which entails the need for careful treatment and
protection of its unique ecosystem from overexploitation. The banks of the
river, dotted with many biological species, need protection so that future
generations can enjoy its abundant vitality and beauty.
The length - about 290 km.
