Between 1712 to 1918 it was the capital of Russia. St. Petersburg is located on both sides of the Neva River and on 42 islands of the delta. Therefore it has about 420 bridges. The town-planning masterpiece was created by the most famous Russian and European architects and artists and contains a lot of memorable and historic places as the world - famed Hermitage, Kasan Cathedral, Isaac's Cathedral, Summer Palace of Peter I., Winter Palace and Petergof.
