«Military History Museum of the Pacific Fleet»
In Vladivostok the whole memorial flotilla of the well-known ships - monuments of
military and labour glory is collected. A basis of a collection became a
memorial museum complex " Fighting glory of Pacific fleet ", located
on Korabelnaya naberegnaya (Ship quay) along which there is a long submarine. The memorial is constructed in
honor of inhabitants of Vladivostok, victims on Great
Patriotic war.
Legendary submarine S-56 is one of components of the memorial complex «Military Glory of the
Pacific Fleet». This is a famous Soviet Pacific Fleet submarine that sank 10
fascist (German) ships during World War II.
On granite stones on which the submarine is established S-56, metal boards
with names of the ships and surnames of members of the crews which have lost
within Great domestic war are attached. And behind of a submarine S-56 the big boards with names of ALL inhabitants
of Primorsky Krai, victims are fixed during the World War II.
Here the small ship has cast off. It is a patrol ship "Krasniy vimpel".
His history began from April, 1911 when on Finnish shipyard "Kreyton"
have constructed the one-screw two-deck steam yacht named in honour of Kamchatka
governor V.S.Zavojko, of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski in the Crimean war of
1853-1856. First time a yacht have attributed to Tallinn port, then ship has
passed through Baltic, Atlantic, Suez canal, the Indian and Silent oceans to
Kamchatka.
After civil war in Far East waters there was only one fighting ship. It also
was the ship "Admiral Zavojko" to which May, 31, 1923 have
appropriated (given) the new name "Krasniy vimpel" and
rename in posilnoe a vessel. In 1924 - 1925 "Krasniy vimpel" protected sea border, helped scientific and
naval hydrographers to investigate water area of sea of Japan. In 1923 the
structure of naval Forces of the Far East was declared (later the Pacific
fleet), and in lists was registered on the first "Krasniy vimpel".
In 1940 the ship have transferred naval school, but with the beginning of
Great Domestic war "Krasniy vimpel" has returned in build: laid
underwater communication lines, provided basing submarines in the non-equipped
bays. In August, 1945 the ship becomes a trawler, participates in
Сейсинской landing operation, then clears waters of the North - Korean ports of one minutes. After the termination of war, long years
""Krasniy vimpel" still served as an auxiliary vessel. July, 20,
1958 the military Council of fleet has transformed the old ship to a floating museum.
